ROBERTO SEQUEIRA Lead vocals,percussion

Roberto Sequeira  founded ONDA in April,2000.He grew up influenced by travel between hometown Washington,D.C. and family in Nicaragua as well as the powerful brass and percussion sounds of bands like Santana,Malo,Tower of Power,War and Earth,Wind & Fire. He began his musical studies on trumpet in 1970,the same year he landed his first lead role in a musical stage production. The vocal styles of Nat "King" Cole,Marvin Gaye,James Brown as well as Latin singers Oscar de Leon and Ruben Blades have all had impact on Roberto's vocal flavor. His passion for Latin music is fueled by extensive travel throughout the Caribbean Basin and roots tracing ancestors to Cuba in the 1600's.Roberto has shared the stage with The Afro Cuban All Stars,B Side Players,Cabaret Diosa,Soul Reclusion and Hazel Miller. Most significantly,he shook the hand of "The GodFather of Soul".In 1997,he worked on "The Shining" at The Stanley Hotel and built the same stage he would return to play on with ONDA.The following year,he led a humanitarian mission to Honduras after Hurricane Mitch and currently hosts/produces the Latin music show on community radio,KGNU.
